Bihar Cabinet expansion: Tej Pratap Yadav, 30 other MLAs take oath as ministers

Patna, Aug 16: RJD leaders Tej Pratap Yadav along with 30 others took oath as the ministers at Raj Bhawan today. The Janata Dal (United) kept 11, followed by the RJD with around 16 ministerial positions.

In addition to Sumit Kumar Singh, the lone Independent MLA, two Congress legislators and one representative from Jitin Ram Manjhi’s Hindustani Awam Morcha took the oath of office as cabinet ministers.

Vijay Kumar Chaudhary, Bijendra Yadav, Shravan Kumar, Ashok Choudhary, Leshi Singh, Sanjay Jha, Madan Sahni, Sheela Kumari, Mohd Zama Khan, Jayant Raj, and Sunil Kumar were among the majority of his party’s ministers that Nitish Kumar kept on.

Tejashwi Yadav’s brother Tej Pratap Yadav, Alok Mehta, Surendra Prasad Yadav and Ramanand Yadav, Kumar Sarvajeet, Lalit Yadav, Samir Kumar Mahaseth, Chandrashekhar, Jitendra Kumar Rai, Anita Devi and Sudhakar Singh, Israel Mansuri, Surendra Ram, Kartikeya Singh, Shahnawaz Alam, Shamim Ahmed took oath from RJD.

Afaque Alam and Murari Lal Gautam, both members of the Congress, were appointed as ministers, and Santosh Suman, a representative of the Hindustani Awam Morcha, was sworn in.

Up to 36 ministers, including the chief minister, may serve in the Bihar cabinet. According to insiders, some ministerial positions were left open for potential future cabinet growth.

Earlier this month, Nitish Kumar had split from the BJP to form a coalition government with the RJD and other parties. On August 10, the Chief Minister and Tejashwi Yadav of the RJD took the oath of office.
