Patna: Ahead of the upcoming Bihar assembly elections expected in October or November 2025, Chief Minister Nitish Kumar has announced free electricity up to 125 units for all domestic consumers starting August 1. The move is expected to benefit around 1.67 crore families across the state.
Solar push and rural support
Kumar also said that the state will begin installing solar panels on rooftops or in nearby public spaces with consumer consent. Under the Kutir Jyoti scheme, extremely poor households will receive fully state-funded solar plants, while others will get subsidized support. The plan is to implement this over the next three years.
Teacher recruitment drive ahead of polls
Separately, the CM has also greenlit the Teachers’ Recruitment Exam (TRE)-4, aiming to fill over 1.2 lakh government school teaching posts. This follows TRE-1, 2, and 3, which filled a combined 3.06 lakh positions. Kumar reaffirmed 35% reservation for Bihar-resident women will continue in TRE-4.
The Bihar Public Service Commission (BPSC) will conduct the recruitment for primary to senior secondary posts. Education Minister Sunil Kumar confirmed that TRE-4 will be held before the election code of conduct is enforced.
