Nitish Kumar, the chief minister of Bihar, expressed sorrow over the deaths of pilgrims from his state—mostly from the Lakhisarai district—in a bus accident on Tuesday in Jammu and offered an ex-gratia of Rs 2 lakh to each of the families of those killed.
Additionally, Kumar asked that the Resident Commissioner of the eastern state in New Delhi assess the situation and see to it that the injured get the necessary care.
Ten Mata Vaishno Devi pilgrims, the majority of whom were from Bihar, were killed and 57 others were hurt after their bus fell into a deep gorge on the national highway between Jammu and Srinagar this morning.
The fifty-seven injured have been admitted to the GMC hospital in Jammu and two of them are critical. “Two persons were brought dead in the hospital while others have died on the spot,” said Soodan, the principal.
