Patna, Sept 5: Bihar chief minister Nitish Kumar will meet senior leaders from various parties during his trip to New Delhi starting Monday to work out a plan to put up a united Opposition by burying differences.

Speaking at the Janata Dal (United) national council meeting in Patna, Kumar slammed the Bharatiya Janata Party, claiming the former alliance partner considers those who support it “sadachari” (good people) and those who oppose its policies “bhrashtachari” (corrupt), according to a JD(U) functionary familiar with the developments.

He was responding to a question concerning his earlier statement at the national executive meeting, in which he claimed the BJP will be limited to roughly 50 seats in the 2024 Lok Sabha elections.

“I don’t give any numbers, but a united opposition, burying small differences, will certainly deliver tremendous success,” he said speaking to reporters after the meeting.

The JD(U) authorised the Bihar chief minister to strive for broader opposition unity throughout the country to take on the BJP in the 2024 general elections during the party’s two-day national executive and national council meetings, which finished on Sunday. Tyagi stated that Kumar will also meet with representatives from six regional parties in addition to those from the Congress in Delhi.

Tyagi stated that the JD(U) does not agree with some leaders, such as Telangana Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao, who desire a non-BJP and non-Congress front. He also stated that the inclusion of the Congress is required for a viable alliance against the BJP. In Bihar, the Congress is a constituent of the Mahagathbandhan administration.
