Patna, May 25: The Bihar administration has decided to conduct an all-party meeting in Patna on June 1 to discuss the subject of caste-based census.
Bihar’s Education Minister, Vijay Kumar Chaudhary, has confirmed the news. He stated that the meeting for the caste-based census has been agreed upon by all political parties.
“Our Chief Minister has already said that a meeting on the caste-based census will soon be held in Patna. Now, the date has been finalised as June 1. Every party has agreed on the date and we are hopeful that the leaders of all the parties will give their valuable suggestions on this issue,” Chaudhary said.
“The venue of the meeting will be 4 Desh Ratna Marg Patna at 4 p.m.,” he added.
Nitish Kumar had previously stated that he supports a meeting on May 27. Except for the BJP, all parties in Bihar agreed on a caste-based census, including the RJD, JD-U, Congress, left parties, HAM, and AIMIM. The BJP was stuck by its central leadership’s decision not to undertake a caste-based census throughout the country. Prime Minister Narendra Modi has already stated that states are free to conduct caste-based censuses at their own expense.
As Nitish Kumar appears to be sticking to his intention to conduct a caste-based census in Bihar, the BJP stepped down on Monday and expressed its support for the state.
