A court in Bihar’s Madhubani district granted bail to one Nitish Kumar, accused of liquor smuggling under the Bihar Prohibition and Excise Act, 2016, on the condition that Kumar will be responsible for the education of five poor children for three months, The Hindu reported.
The Additional Sessions Judge also directed Kumar to strictly follow the liquor prohibition law in Bihar.
The Court further ordered that at the end of three months, the family members of the children should furnish certificates confirming that Kumar successfully fulfilled the responsibility imposed on him by the order.
Kumar was arrested and detained after an FIR under the Prohibition Act was registered against him in Madhepur police station on November 16, 2020.
When a watchman, Jaldhari Paswan, received information that liquor was being smuggled in a Scorpio SUV and a bike near Pachahi village, he reached the scene and attempted to stop the smugglers. However, they fled from the spot after firing in the air.
Paswan later filed a complaint against the accused based on which Kumar was arrested.
