Patna: Political turbulence has resurfaced in Bihar as the Economic Offences Unit (EOU) expands its probe into the alleged horse-trading of JD(U) MLAs. The EOU has issued notices to former RJD MLA Beema Bharti, along with Sanjay Patel, Pramod Kumar, and Sunny Kumar, directing them to appear for questioning on July 21.
JD(U) MLA Sudarshan Kumar Also Under Scanner
Beema Bharti faces allegations of accepting large sums of money in connection with the purported attempts to poach JD(U) legislators. Sources indicate that the EOU may soon issue a notice to JD(U) MLA Sudarshan Kumar as well. Reports suggest that efforts were allegedly made to “manage” Sudarshan Kumar, with the involvement of sand mafia operative Alok Yadav, who is said to be close to engineer Sunil Kumar, already under investigation in the case.
Financial Transactions and Digital Evidence Under Scrutiny
The investigating agency has analyzed call detail records and location data for Alok Yadav and MLA Sudarshan Kumar. WhatsApp calls between the two have also been decoded. Probes have revealed that during the trust vote in 2024, Alok Yadav allegedly transferred a significant amount of money into the account linked to Sudarshan Kumar’s petrol pump. The EOU is investigating this financial transaction further.
JD(U) MLA Filed Original FIR
The controversy erupted after JD(U) MLA Sudhanshu Kumar lodged an FIR at Kotwali police station in Patna on February 11, 2024. He alleged that MLAs from the NDA were being enticed by the Mahagathbandhan (Grand Alliance) with promises of ministerial positions and bribes of ₹10 crore each in exchange for switching sides. Given the seriousness of the allegations, the matter was handed over to the Economic Offences Unit for investigation.
Evidence Against Two Other JD(U) MLAs
Sources reveal that the EOU has also gathered evidence against two additional JD(U) legislators, who may soon be summoned for questioning. Additionally, engineer Sunil Kumar, linked to the RJD, is expected to be called in for further interrogation.
