Patna: Bihar’s controversial political strongman Anant Kumar Singh, popularly known as Chhote Sarkar, has once again landed in the spotlight after being arrested for the alleged murder of gangster-turned-politician Dular Singh Yadav. A dominant force in Mokama’s political landscape for over two decades, Singh’s name is synonymous with both power and notoriety. Known for his trademark white attire and sunglasses, the JD(U) candidate enjoys near-cult status on social media, where his offbeat remarks often go viral.
Criminal Cases And Lavish Assets
According to his election affidavit, Anant Singh faces 28 ongoing criminal cases, including charges of murder, criminal conspiracy, kidnapping, assault, and multiple arms-related offenses. Beyond his criminal record, Singh’s declared assets paint a picture of opulence — with movable assets worth ₹13 crore, including a Toyota Land Cruiser, a Fortuner SUV, and even an elephant and a horse. His total assets stand at ₹37.88 crore, while his wife Neelam Devi, current MLA from Mokama, possesses assets worth ₹62.72 crore.
Mokama’s ‘Chhote Sarkar’ And His Political Journey
Less than 100 km from Patna, Mokama has long been considered Singh’s fortress. He began his political career in 2005, representing the constituency in the Bihar Assembly. Over the years, he has switched loyalties between JD(U), RJD, and Independent runs, yet his electoral success has remained consistent. After his conviction in a 2022 arms case led to disqualification, his wife Neelam Devi contested and retained the seat for RJD. Now, Singh has returned to JD(U) — once again at the centre of Bihar’s volatile power play.
The Dular Singh Yadav Murder Case
The latest controversy erupted after Dular Singh Yadav, a criminal-turned-politician, was found dead in Mokama. The post-mortem revealed cardiorespiratory failure due to blunt force trauma. Police arrested Anant Singh, Manikant Thakur, and Ranjeet Ram in connection with the murder. Singh, however, has denied involvement, claiming he was “far away from the scene.” He alleged that rival strongman Suraj Bhan was behind the killing to tarnish his image, saying, “It must be the handiwork of Suraj Bhan. He orchestrated the killing so that I would get a bad name.”
As the investigation unfolds, the case once again exposes the deep nexus between crime and politics in Bihar — a state where muscle power often trumps party lines.
