Patna, March 4: Chief minister Nitish Kumar decided to send a four-person team of top officials to Tamil Nadu to investigate the alleged attacks on Bihar migrant labourers in the southern state.

The team, which will be led by Balamurugan D, the secretary for rural development in Bihar, will travel to Tamil Nadu’s afflicted regions where there have been allegations of attacks on Bihari migrants.

A top official of the state government told TOI on Friday that the team also includes Inspector General of Police (CID) P Kannan, Special Secretary (Labor Resources Department) Alok Kumar, and another senior IPS officer whose name has not yet been decided. The group will take a Saturday am flight to Chennai.

“The visiting team will interact with the Bihari migrants as well as local residents and ensure appropriate action by the local administration to solve the problems of the people of Bihar,” a communique issued by the chief minister’s office stated.

“Balamurugan, the team leader, and Kannan, are natives of Tamil Nadu. They were included in the team because they are well versed in Tamil and can easily interact with the local people,” the senior official added.

The CM, Bihar’s chief secretary Amir Subhani, and DGP R S Bhatti had a high-level review meeting here on Friday evening where they decided to deploy the four-person delegation. Nitish instructed the DGP and the chief secretary to keep a close eye on the plight of the migrant labourers in Tamil Nadu.

Tejashwi had earlier informed the legislature that there had been no such incidences of attacks on Bihari migrants in the southern state, citing the top police official in Tamil Nadu.
