Patna: The onset of January has brought a sharp drop in temperatures across Bihar, leaving residents shivering throughout the day. The Meteorological Department has forecast persistent cold and cold wave conditions across the state for the entire month. This is primarily due to snowfall in the Himalayan regions and icy winds sweeping in from the northwest, which have dragged minimum temperatures below normal in several districts.
Dense Fog and Rain to Add to Discomfort
The department warns that dense fog is likely during early mornings and nights, severely reducing visibility and causing commuting difficulties. A light rain alert has also been issued, which may further lower temperatures, intensifying the cold. Northern and central Bihar are expected to bear the brunt of the cold wave. IMD has advised farmers to stay alert, as the chilling weather and fog could adversely affect crops.
Transport Disruptions and Health Advisory
Temperatures in districts like Patna, Gaya, Muzaffarpur, Darbhanga, Purnia, Bhagalpur, and Saharsa are expected to hover between 5°C to 8°C, with some areas likely experiencing even lower readings. Fog has already disrupted road, rail, and air traffic—many trains are running late, and flights are facing delays. Doctors have urged special precautions for children, the elderly, and those with existing health conditions.
