Kolkata, Mar 26: The Central Bureau of Investigation has listed 21 suspects in its FIR in the Birbhum violence case. The accused have been charged under Section 147, 148, 149, and other Sections in the FIR on suspected offence of armed rioting.

On March 21, miscreants set ten houses on fire in Birbhum’s Bogtui hamlet in West Bengal. The incident killed eight persons, including women and children.

According to the CBI’s FIR, preliminary investigation suggests that the violence was carried out in “retaliation” for the murder of Bhadu Sheikh, the TMC’s local panchayat’s ‘upa-pradhan.’ The day prior, he was allegedly attacked with rudimentary bombs by unknown assailants.

The FIR further claims that a “unruly mob of 70-80 people” raided the victims’ homes and set them on fire with the intent of “killing the persons inside.”

The CBI has been ordered to take over the investigation by the Calcutta High Court. The team then visited the Rampurhat police station, took numerous papers and documents connected to the case, and travelled to the scene of the violence.

A team from the CBI’s Central Forensic Sciences Laboratory (CFSL) on Friday collected samples for forensic analysis and inspected the residences that were destroyed in the fire.

Director-General of Police (DGP) West Bengal, Manoj Malviya on Friday informed that 11 arrests have been made in the case so far.
