Ranchi, April 1: Birla Institute of Technology (BIT) Mesra in Ranchi witnessed a massive protest of students against the decision of the BIT administration to hold an offline examination. The protest has been going on since Friday morning when over 500 students assembled at the Upper Lawn in front of the main building of the BIT.

After the lockdown due to the Covid-19, their classes were held online. Last month their offline classes were resumed and students are now returning to the campus. In between, BIT announced holding their offline examination from April 25. Students demanded that since their classes were held online the examination should also be taken online.  They said that Banaras Hindu University, IIT, and ISM Dhanbad also have announced plans to hold examinations online.

They said that it was not possible for them to do a revision of study materials in the form of over thousands of slides and PowerPoints. Students refused to attend their classes and labs remained vacant till the BIT administration kindly considered their demand. The main gate of the institute and the building have been closed and the entry of students here has been restricted.

As students demanded to meet Vice-Chancellor Indranil Mana, the BIT administration said that he was not available. They rather asked students to withdraw their agitation and said that they would consider their demand. But students want an immediate rollback and said that the VC should meet them instead of asking officials to convince the students.
