Ranchi: Jharkhand is reeling under an intense cold wave, with nights turning freezing cold and mornings marked by dense fog and icy winds, severely disrupting daily life across the state.
Khunti Records Lowest Temperature
The cold was most severe in Khunti, where the minimum temperature plunged to a chilling 1.5 degrees Celsius. Other districts also witnessed sharp drops, with Daltonganj recording 3.2°C, Bokaro Thermal 5.1°C, Chaibasa 6.8°C, Lohardaga 6.0°C, and Seraikela 5.5°C. The capital Ranchi was not spared, as the mercury dipped to 7.3°C, adding to the widespread cold conditions.
Day Temperatures Offer Little Relief
Despite sunshine during the day, biting cold winds continued to trouble residents. Maximum temperatures remained relatively low, offering limited comfort. Chaibasa recorded the highest maximum temperature at 27.8°C, while Ranchi saw 21.8°C, Jamshedpur 25.5°C, and Latehar only 17.3°C, underscoring the persistence of cold weather.
Cold Wave Alert Issued by Weather Department
The Meteorological Department has warned that cold wave conditions are likely to prevail during morning hours on January 9 across western, north-central, and southern parts of Jharkhand. Districts including Ranchi, Bokaro, Gumla, Khunti, Lohardaga, Palamu, and Latehar are expected to continue experiencing severe cold, with little change in minimum temperatures over the next two to three days.
Ranchi and Surrounding Areas Forecast
In and around Ranchi, dense fog and mist during early mornings are causing additional inconvenience. According to forecasts, January 9 may see a maximum temperature of 21°C and a minimum of 9°C, January 10 around 22°C and 9°C, January 11 about 23°C and 8°C, and January 12 approximately 23°C and 6°C.
