New Delhi: The BJP launched a sharp attack on Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi after he accused the Election Commission of aiding voter fraud. BJP MP Sambit Patra criticised Gandhi’s remarks, calling them undemocratic and a reflection of “electoral rage.”
Sambit Patra Reacts to Rahul’s Threatening Tone
Patra highlighted that Rahul Gandhi warned of “serious consequences” if the Election Commission failed to respond to his press conference and even threatened action against EC officials if the opposition came to power. “Is this the language of a responsible opposition leader?” Patra asked. He said such statements were rooted in frustration and political opportunism.
Selective Outrage and Double Standards
The BJP MP questioned why Rahul Gandhi did not raise concerns in states where Congress won elections. “Why no press conferences in states you won?” Patra asked, accusing the Congress of selective anger. He also noted the contradiction in celebrating victory in 99 Lok Sabha seats while simultaneously questioning the integrity of the electoral process.
Rahul’s Credibility in Question
Patra said Rahul Gandhi’s repeated use of offensive language and baseless claims has eroded his credibility. He recalled previous instances where Gandhi had to apologise—such as remarks about Veer Savarkar and China—and said such behaviour raised doubts about his reliability as a political leader. “His words carry no weight anymore,” Patra asserted.
Demand for Affidavit and Legal Accountability
Patra emphasised that Gandhi must now submit an affidavit to the Election Commission and undergo proper investigation to prove his claims. Until then, he said, the allegations remained hollow and politically motivated.
Supreme Court and Public Opinion
Patra questioned Gandhi’s statements on Pulwama and Operation Sindoor, calling them attempts to undermine the national mood. He claimed this is why even the Supreme Court asked Gandhi whether he considers himself a “true Indian,” warning that such rhetoric could lead the public to brand him anti-national.
