NEW DELHI: The counting of votes in Haryana saw a major shift as the BJP surged ahead of the Congress after trailing in the early rounds. The atmosphere at both party offices changed dramatically within the last hour, as the BJP took the lead with 47 out of 90 seats, while the Congress now trails with 36 seats.
Earlier in the day, the Congress began early celebrations at their Delhi headquarters, bursting crackers and distributing jalebis as initial results were in their favor. However, as the counting progressed, the tide turned, and celebrations shifted to the BJP headquarters, where media personnel were offered snacks and laddoos.
Despite the sudden setback, Congress leaders including Bhupinder Singh Hooda and Kumari Shelja remain optimistic, expressing hope for a potential comeback as counting continues.
BJP Eyes Hat-Trick in Haryana
If the current trend holds, the BJP could be heading for a hat-trick victory in Haryana, marking their best-ever performance in the state. In the last assembly election in 2019, the BJP won 40 seats, the Congress 31, and the Jannayak Janta Party (JJP) secured 10. This time, the JJP, no longer allied with the BJP, has suffered a setback.
With multiple rounds of counting still left, the final result could still change, leaving both parties on edge as they await the outcome.
