Ranchi, Oct.7: In an incident of mob lynching in Jharkhand, 45-year-old Imran Ansari was lynched for having a love affair with a woman not belonging to his community.
The incident took place in the night of October 6 at Dhawaiya, a village about 30 km from the district headquarters under the Mahuatand police station area of Bokaro district.
Bokaro Superintendent of Police Chandan Kumar Jha confirmed the incident saying, “As many as 11 persons have been arrested in this connection.”
Asked about the situation after the incident, SP Jha said: “Everything is normal in the village and there is no law and order problem following the incident.”
A police official said, “Villagers were not happy with the affair of a married Muslim man with a married non-Muslim woman. Last night, after the Durga immersion procession was over, a section of villagers attacked Ansari with sticks. The man sustained injuries and was admitted to a local hospital, from where he was referred to RIMS. However, before he could reach the hospital, he succumbed to his injuries. An FIR has been registered against 22 people in connection. Sensing the gravity of the situation and possibility of communal disturbance, prohibitory order section 144 of CrPC has been enforced in the locality.”
