New Delhi, Feb 5: Josh Hazlewood said on Sunday that he will not play in the first Test against India in Nagpur for the Border-Gavaskar Trophy, which begins on February 9.
Hazlewood has stated that he will be sidelined for at least the opening game of the series due to a left achilles niggle he sustained last month.
A quick turnaround for the second Test, though, would mean that the right-arm bowler is in a race against time to be ready for the match in Delhi. For the opening match in Nagpur, Hazlewood joins Mitchell Starc in the casualty room.
“Scotty has bowled plenty at the MCG when it was a flat wicket, it probably wasn’t swinging or reverse swinging so he knows how to work hard for a long period of time,” Hazlewood said.
Hazlewood talked openly about his condition, claiming that Sydney’s wet fields were to blame for the problem, which he first experienced during the SCG Test against South Africa last month.
