Guwahati, Mar 8: On the occasion of International Women’s Day, FMCG giant Britannia Industries said on Tuesday that its largest northeastern factory in Guwahati will have a 65 percent female workforce this year.
Britannia Industries Regional Manufacturing Head (East) Kishor Vinayak Kulkarni remarked at the facility in Rampur, Assam, that the business presently employs 1,367 people on a permanent and contract basis, with 60 percent of them being women.
“Women are an important constituent of our society as well as our company. We are steadily increasing the number of women employees at our manufacturing facility over the years. We are looking forward to closing the 2022 calendar year with 65 per cent women in our workforce,” he told PTI.
However, he gave no estimate of the overall number of employees the company will have by the end of the year.
“The exact number of employees that we are going to hire during the year is difficult to say at this moment. As the production demand grows, the overall workforce capacity is set to grow. We are clear that the women employees will be 65 percent of the total workforce,” he added.
The plant has a daily output capacity of 260 tonnes installed, with current capacity utilisation of 210-240 tonnes, according to Kulkarni.
The plant produces six different products, including Good Day, Marie Gold, and Nutrichoice, the company’s major brands.
“Britannia reviews the progress of its diversity programme every month and measures progress against targets across metrics such as recruitment, engagement, promotion and attrition.
“Women in leadership roles have played an important role in facilitating a more inclusive environment, especially in manufacturing operations,” Kulkarni said.
In July 2018, the Wadia Group opened a facility in Rampur, near Guwahati. Britannia’s largest greenfield manufacturing facility at the time cost Rs 170 crore to build.
