New Delhi, Aug 11: The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) detained Anubrata Mondal in connection with a 2020 cattle smuggling case. Mondal is a close ally of West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee and the president of the TMC’s Birbhum district. On August 11, he was detained outside of his Birbhum district home.
The central agency had already interrogated Mondal twice as part of its inquiry into the cattle smuggling case. A team of CBI arrives at the residence of TMC Birbhum district president Anubrata Mondal in Bolpur earlier in the day.

As a result of the CBI filing a FIR in 2020, his name surfaced in the cattle smuggling scam case. The Border security force intercepted more than 20,000 cattle heads between 2015 and 2017 as they were being smuggled across the border, according to the CBI.

A number of locations in the district have recently been the target of raids by the CBI in relation to the livestock smuggling case. Saigal Hossain, Mondal’s bodyguard, was also taken into custody by the investigation team.
