New Delhi, Oct 11: In a case involving disproportionate assets, the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) issued a charge sheet against former telecom minister A Raja. According to officials, Raja amassed disproportionate assets of Rs 5.53 crore while serving as a government minister.

According to officials, the minister allegedly received a commission in the form of land purchased by a business connected to Raja, worth around Rs 4.5 crore. According to sources, Kovai Shelters, a business rumoured to be associated to A Raja, received the commission from DLF.

The CBI said that aside from the alleged land purchase for the real estate firm, the corporation had not engaged in any other real estate activity in the charge sheet submitted in August 2022.

Raja, according to the agency, amassed assets totaling Rs 5.53 crore, including the payment of Rs 4.56 crore to the firm whose directors were Raja’s immediate family. When he served as the environment minister in 2007, Raja received the commission.

His total disproportionate assets throughout the check period totaled Rs. 5.53 crore, or 579% more than his disclosed source of income.
