New Delhi: The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has announced that it will approach the High Court against the trial court’s decision acquitting former Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal and former Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia in the Delhi excise policy case.
CBI Questions Trial Court Findings
The CBI stated that several crucial aspects of its investigation were either overlooked or not properly examined by the trial court. According to the agency, the judgment did not adequately assess the facts and evidence presented during the proceedings.
The agency described the matter as highly sensitive and significant, asserting that an appeal before the High Court is necessary to ensure due judicial process and arrive at an appropriate conclusion.
BJP Reacts To Acquittal
BJP MP Sudhanshu Trivedi said the acquittal by the lower court does not mark the end of the investigation. He termed the verdict a technical matter based on the absence of sufficient evidence and claimed that hundreds of mobile phones and SIM cards were destroyed in connection with the case. He added that the CBI would take appropriate steps to address the issue of alleged destruction of evidence.
Trivedi also questioned how charges were framed initially if all allegations were entirely baseless.
AAP Calls Case A Political Conspiracy
AAP MP Sanjay Singh said the party was targeted despite focusing on governance issues such as education, healthcare, electricity, water supply, and public schools. He alleged that the party was defamed as part of a political conspiracy to remove it from power in Delhi.
Sanjay Singh demanded that the Prime Minister apologize to the country and to Arvind Kejriwal and his family. He stated that political vendetta cannot continue indefinitely and that truth may be troubled but cannot be defeated.
The Delhi excise policy case, which had significant political implications, now moves to the next legal stage as the CBI prepares to challenge the acquittal before the High Court.
