Mumbai, Oct.13: Sharad Pawar, the chief of the Nationalist Congress Party, stated on Wednesday that government agencies such as the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI), the Enforcement Directorate (ED), and the Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) are being utilised to attack the opposition.

During a press conference, the NCP president, referring to the Income Tax Department’s raids on firms linked to Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar, said officers from the agencies had been conducting raids for the sixth day on Wednesday, which is unusual.

“Central agencies, including the ED, CBI and NCB, are being misused,” he claimed.

He further said that the Anti-Narcotics Cell of the Mumbai Police has done a better job than the NCB.

The NCP, which governs Maharashtra alongside the Shiv Sena and the Congress, has already stated that it will fight the federal authorities’ attacks on its leaders and employees with determination.

The state’s information technology agency raided firms tied to the family of Ajit Pawar, a key NCP official. Anil Deshmukh, a senior NCP politician and former state minister, is also being investigated by federal authorities on several counts.

The NCB has recently carried out a number of raids, including on a number of high-profile individuals.

Apart from the recent drugs bust onboard a cruise ship off the coast of Mumbai, which resulted in the arrest of Bollywood superstar Shah Rukh Khan’s son Aryan Khan, the NCB last year investigated a drug case linked to actor Sushant Singh Rajput’s death, as well as several other narcotics-related cases involving high-profile individuals.
