Central Coalfields Ltd ropes in private players to develop, operate coalmines

CCL registers all time high coal production and dispatch in last fiscal 2021-22

Ranchi, April 4: Giving momentum to the ongoing “Atmanirbhar Bharat Abhiyaan or Self-reliant India campaign, Central Coalfields Limited (CCL), a Jharkhand-based subsidiary of Coal India, has signed agreement with private players to carry out mining activities through Mine Developer Cum Operator (MDO) Mode for 25 years.

 

The Chandragupta OCP Project will be developed and operated by M/s. Sushee Chandragupt Coal Mine Pvt Ltd, an SPV(Special Purpose Vehicle) comprising of Sushee Infra and Mining Ltd. and MRKR constructions and industries Pvt. Ltd. Recently CCL has signed agreement with them at CCL Headquarters, Ranchi

 

Spread over an area of 1495 hectare in Hazaribagh district, this mega project will have an annual capacity of 15 MT. A cumulative production of 339.30 MT Non-Coking Coal over 25 years will be achieved though this project.

 

The MDO mode embodies the notion of Public Private Partnership. In the MDO approach, the contractor carries out the entire spectrum of activities right from land possession, R&R activities to development and operation of mine and coal extraction and coal transportation up to the owner’s loading silo on behalf of the mine owner i.e CCL who has the mining rights.

 

The project will use the finest state of art eco-friendly technology to ensure that the ecosystem of the area is not hampered by mining activities. This project will have a total capital expenditure of about Rs 3437 crores. The project will generate direct and indirect employments for the Project affected villagers. The execution of the project will result in an augmentation of the infrastructure in the neighbouring villages and the upliftment of the community through different welfare and CSR programs.

 

The project is in the advanced stage of execution and once the mining activities begin, it will enable CCL to achieve an annual production of over 100 MT which will give a huge impetus to the “Atma Nirbhar Bharat” Abhiyan of the Government of India.

 

Meanwhile, CCL shattered all its previous records to register highest ever performance in coal production and dispatch in last fiscal 2021-22, which ended on 31 March 2022. The company’s coal production stood at 68.85  Million Tonnes(MT) while coal dispatch was 71.86 MT during fiscal 2021-2022 respectively. These figures are the best registered by company since its inception.

 

The company witnessed an unprecedented growth of 10% in raw coal production compared to last fiscal. The average rake loading also registered a 4% growth.

 

The Capital expenditure of the company was Rs 2000 crores in fiscal 2021-22, which is growth of 15% compared to last fiscal. The company paid Rs 899.10 Crores as land compensation in FY 2021-22 and carried out plantation in 133 Hectare against a committed target of 110 Ha in the FY 22

 

This performance of the company gains added relevance because of the post Covid-19 challenges and the nation’s increasing demand of coal.

 

CMD, CCL P.M. Prasad and the functional directors congratulated the entire team of CCL on this stellar performance. The CMD said that this performance is a testimony of perseverance and dedication of the energy warriors of the company. He further added that the company under the leadership of Coal Minister Pralhad Joshi and his team and the guidance of  Chairman Coal India Pramod Agrawal is committed to fulfill the “Atma Nirbhar Bharat” Vision of Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi.

 

He expressed his gratitude to the state government and local district administrations for their continuous support. He further acknowledged the trade union representatives, public representatives, villagers and the stakeholders of the company.

 

CCL mining areas is spread out in 8 districts of Jharkhand including Ranchi, In Jharkhand, CCL is one of the biggest contributors to the state exchequer and working in inclusive growth of state.

 

The company is also a pioneer in CSR and implements various welfare schemes for the benefit of the stakeholders. This year also company signed an MOU with Akshaya Patra Foundation for establishing a community kitchen at Ramgarh which will provide Mid-Day meal to about 50,000 students of the government schools of Jharkhand.
