New Delhi, Dec 23: The government has approved Bharat Biotech’s nasal vaccine for inclusion in the vaccination as a booster dose for those above 18 years of age and will be added to the Cowin app.

“The Government of India has approved the Nasal vaccine which will be used as a heterologous booster and will be available initially in private hospitals. It will be included in the Covid vaccination program from today,” said the official.

The needle-free vaccine will be available at private centres and will be introduced on CoWIN on Friday evening.

Bharat Biotech’s Nasal vaccine, being a needless jab, will be India’s first such booster dose. It can be administered to those above 18 years. Pricing of the vaccine will be decided soon and will be made available in government and private facilities.

The Ministry of Science has recognized the vaccine as the ‘World’s first intranasal vaccine for COVID developed by India’. The vaccine has been developed in partnership with Washington University St Louis, which has designed, developed, and evaluated its efficacy in preclinical studies. Product development related to preclinical safety evaluation, large-scale manufacturing scale-up, formulation and delivery device development, including human clinical trials, were conducted by Bharat Biotech.
