Chandigarh, March 28: Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann, reacting to the Centre’s move to bring officials from the Chandigarh administration under central government norms, stated the BJP-led Union government was imposing personnel from other states on the Chandigarh administration on Monday.

“Central Govt has been stepwise imposing officers and personnel from other states and services in Chandigarh administration. This goes against the letter and spirit of Punjab Reorganisation Act 1966. Punjab will fight strongly for its rightful claim over Chandigarh,” he tweeted.

Earlier, Union Home Minister Amit Shah told police authorities in Chandigarh that personnel of the Chandigarh Union Territory will now be subject to central government procedures.

The Shiromani Akali Dal, on the other hand, was against the idea. Manish Sisodia, the Deputy Chief Minister of Delhi and a leader of the Aam Aadmi Party, also spoke out against the plan, saying that the “BJP is afraid of the AAP’s growing presence.”
