New Delhi, Dec 22: The Indian government has issued a notice amid the rise of Covid-19 cases in China and other nations. States have been instructed to increase awareness and prepare for genome sequencing of positive case samples in order tothe  monitor current and new variations.

Meanwhile, a WhatsApp message circulating among the public claims that the recently identified XBB subvariant of Omicron is five times more virulent and has a greater mortality rate than the Delta variant during this Covid crisis. Additionally, it provides a warning that its symptoms differ markedly from those of other sub-variants.

This WhatsApp message has been marked as fraudulent and deceptive by the Union Health Ministry. It is urged that people not repeat it or believe it.

Current statistics, according to the World Health Organization (WHO), do not indicate that XBB is more dangerous than Omicron, which is also less lethal than the Delta version.

The XBB form is allegedly more lethal or produces more severe Covid-19 than the Delta type, according to a fact-check conducted by the news organisation Reuters in November 2022.

According to research by the Institute for Health Metrics and Evaluation (IHME), the XBB variety of Omicron is more contagious than earlier iterations, but it also seems to produce less severe sickness.
