The Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) issued the order to the Delhi Police days after Chauhan took over as India’s new defense chief, more than nine months after the death of the country’s first CDS, General Bipin Rawat.

General Chauhan became India’s second CD last Friday.

About 33 armed Delhi Police personnel guarded Chauhan both at his residence and during his journey.

He is also the chief military adviser to the Minister of Defense on all tri-service matters, as well as the head of the military affairs department as secretary. He is also the Permanent President of the Chiefs of Staff Committee (COSC).
