New Delhi, Feb 7: In honour of iconic singer Lata Mangeshkar, the Centre will issue a postal stamp. Union Minister Ashwini Vaishnav made the announcement at a media event on Monday.

“The stamp would be an appropriate honour for the ‘Nightingale of India’, said Minister of Railways, Communications and Electronics & Information Technology of India, Ashwini Vaishnaw.

As a commemorative stamp, the stamp will be issued. Notably, Commemorative stamps are produced to commemorate significant events, renowned figures in many fields, features of nature, beautiful or rare flora and fauna, environmental issues, agricultural activities, national/international issues, games, and so on, according to the postal authority.

Lata Mangeshkar, a Bharat Ratna awardee, died at a hospital on Sunday after a long illness. The government has announced two days of national mourning following this.

Yesterday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi paid a visit to Mumbai to pay tribute to her.
