Ranchi/Delhi: The Supreme Court on Monday scheduled October 10 for the next hearing on the bail plea of former Ranchi Deputy Commissioner Chhavi Ranjan, after the Enforcement Directorate (ED) requested additional time to file its response. The bench of Justices Surya Kant and Joymala Bagchi accepted the request and adjourned the matter.

Background of the Bail Petition

Ranjan approached the Supreme Court after his bail was rejected by both the PMLA (Prevention of Money Laundering Act) court and the Jharkhand High Court. On August 6, Justice Sujit Narayan Prasad of the High Court dismissed his plea, denying relief in a high-profile land scam case.

Land Scam Linked to Army Property

The case relates to the alleged illegal sale and purchase of land under Army possession in Bariatu, Ranchi’s Bargai area. Along with IAS officer Chhavi Ranjan, prominent businessman Vishnu Agrawal, revenue inspector Bhanu Pratap Prasad, and several others — including Pradeep Bagchi, Afzar Ali, Imtiaz Khan, Talha Khan, Faiyaz Khan, Mohammad Saddam, Amit Agrawal, and Dilip Ghosh — have been named as accused in the scam.
