Jamshedpur, July 6: The 10th Manufacturing Conclave was organized by CII (Confederation of Indian Industry) Eastern Region at Jamshedpur today with the theme of integrating the Global Value Chain through Competitiveness – Sustainability – Technology.
Addressing the inaugural session, Jitendra Kumar Singh, Secretary, Jharkhand Industry Department briefed about the integral role played by the manufacturing sector in the economy of India. He said the industry sector holds a prominent position in the country, contributing 30 per cent in the overall GVA of the country reflecting a resilient growth in the present years.
He continued by saying, the share of the industrial sector has been 48 per cent of the GSDP of Jharkhand in 2021-22. The mining industry is among the leading industries in the state.
Besides this, he said, Jharkhand is coming out with its new pharmaceutical policy, ethanol production policy and solar policy. 40 per cent of the natural mineral stocks of the country belongs to the state. Jharkhand can contribute majorly to the GVC exports of India with an upgradation in the infrastructure of the state mentioning here about the Amritsar-Kolkata industrial corridor. Working on promoting the green hydrogen initiative and getting pharma and electronic manufacturing park are the new highlights of the state. This untapped potential of the state in different manufacturing spaces viz pharmaceutical and solar energy is aligned with the worldwide vision of sustainability.
Amit Ganeriwalla, senior partner of McKinsey & Co. put light on the diverse and robust capital market and the huge skilled workforce of India. He emphasized re-imagining the manufacturing sector of the country in the new age of digitalization.
Joining virtually in the conclave inaugural, Rene Van Berkel, Country Representative, UNIDO spoke at length about the role of inclusive and sustainable development of society. He said that despite India being ranked as the sixth largest manufacturing economy in the world, her total labour force participation is the lowest among Asian manufacturing economies, due to the lowest female labour force participation.
Suvendra Behera, Deputy Chairman, CII Eastern region and Vice Chairman & Managing Director RSB Transmission (I) Ltd in his address on the manufacturing ecosystem in the East spoke about the correlation between manufacturing and economic health of the country. Talking about the prospects of manufacturing in the eastern part of India, he highlighted the relaxation of various norms by the Odisha government in providing land to the industry and the multiple subsidies granted by them in power and fertilizer.
Ravindra Kulkarni, Convener – CII Jharkhand Manufacturing Panel & Plant Head – Jamshedpur, Tata Motors Ltd, briefed about the promising growth of the economy of India amidst the changing geo-political and the post-pandemic effect. He deliberated on the integral role of the manufacturing sector which contributes 17 per cent of the GDP in fostering the export growth of the country.
Ramphal Nehra, Co-Chairman, CII Eastern Region Manufacturing Sub Committee and Director cum Plant Manager Tata Cummins Pvt Ltd spoke about the different initiatives undertaken by the government of India namely the PLI scheme and national manufacturing policy to propel the industry sector.
Speaking about the role of MSMEs in Manufacturing, Tapas Sahu, Member, CII National Council and co-chairman, CII ER MSME subcommittee and Managing Director of Highco Engineers Pvt LTD emphasized on the vital role of MSME in generating employment and uplifting the socio-economic aspect of the society. He mentioned about PMEGP and the various policies implemented by the government for easing the business ecosystem of India.
The Conclave also saw the awards being given away for the Regional Quality Circle Convention 2023 to winning industries.
