Ranchi: In a significant development ahead of the Jharkhand Assembly elections, Chief Minister Hemant Soren has officially announced that Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM) and Congress will contest 70 seats together. During a press conference at the Chief Minister’s residence on Saturday, Soren confirmed that the remaining seats will be shared among alliance partners, including Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) and CPI(ML). According to the arrangement, 11 seats are likely to be distributed between RJD and CPI(ML). This agreement has been made for the first phase of the elections.

Strategic Seat Sharing

CM Hemant Soren emphasized that every factor was taken into account during the seat-sharing discussions, ensuring a balanced approach. He said, “There is always curiosity about where candidates will stand from. The INDIA alliance has thoughtfully considered all aspects before reaching a decision.” The Chief Minister also mentioned that the Left parties would play a crucial role in this election and that candidate names would soon be finalized.

Expected Seat Distribution for JMM and Congress

Sources suggest that JMM is expected to contest between 43 to 45 seats, while Congress will contest around 28 to 30 seats. The remaining 11 seats will likely be shared between RJD and CPI(ML), with 7 seats potentially going to RJD and 4 to CPI(ML).

Candidate Announcements Soon

Ghulam Ahmad Mir, Jharkhand Congress in-charge, mentioned that the seat-sharing talks are almost complete. “We are in the process of finalizing candidates, and an official announcement will be made shortly,” he said.

2019 Election Seat Distribution

In the 2019 Assembly elections, the seat distribution was as follows:

  • JMM: Contested 43 seats, won 30.
  • Congress: Contested 31 seats, won 16.
  • RJD: Contested 7 seats, won 1.

This time, the alliance hopes to consolidate its position and achieve a bigger win with a well-strategized seat-sharing plan.
