Ranchi: Former Jharkhand Chief Minister and tribal leader Shibu Soren was cremated with full state honours on Tuesday. Chief Minister Hemant Soren performed the last rites for his father. As per tradition, a 10-day Shraddha (mourning and ritual period) will follow, and CM Hemant Soren has decided to remain in Nemra throughout the duration.
CM to Participate Fully in Rituals
According to family sources, the Chief Minister has committed to participating in all religious rituals associated with the cremation and mourning period. He will spend these days in Nemra with his family, cherishing the memories of his late father and drawing emotional strength from them.
Emotional Farewell in Nemra
The final rites took place at Shibu Soren’s ancestral home in Nemra, Ramgarh. A large crowd comprising citizens, supporters, and political leaders gathered to pay their last respects. The overwhelming presence of thousands provided solace and support to the grieving Chief Minister.
A Mourning Village
As the villagers bid farewell to their beloved ‘Guruji,’ eyes were filled with tears and an eerie silence blanketed the village. From Ranchi to Nemra, people stood patiently by the roadsides to catch a glimpse of their leader for one last time. Some said even the sky wept, sharing in the collective grief.
Tradition Behind the 10-Day Ritual
As per tradition, it is believed that after death, the soul moves on after three days. Hence, loved ones carry a symbolic shade of the departed back to their home, marking emotional closure and continuation of the mourning process. Shibu Soren’s Shraddha will last ten days, in accordance with customary rites.
