Ranchi, Nov 17: Chief Minister Hemant Soren while attending the golden jubilee celebration of the Gossner College as the chief guest gave credit to the missionaries for their commendable support in the field of education in Jharkhand.
“Jharkhand is facing the brunt of backwardness only due to the lack of education but the missionaries have contributed well to the upliftment of tribals, backward and minorities,” the CM said.
On the occasion, GL church’s Bishop Johan Dang said that the students of Gossner college are empowering society.
“The 50th birth anniversary of Gossner college is a time to thank God as with the guidance of God the education is developing at the national and international level,” Dang said.
On November 1, 1971, Dr Nirmal Minj started Gossner College with the help of GL Church by spending only Rs.56.50. In that college, there were some teachers and some students in the name of the faculty. In the beginning, tribal and regional languages were taught here. Whereas, today 28 subjects, as well as professional courses, are being taught. 13 thousand students are studying in the college.
Gossner College also has a major contribution to Indian Hockey. College students Asunta Lakra and Sumrai Tete have represented the Indian women’s hockey team. Asunta has also captained the Indian women’s hockey team. Whereas, college student Vimal Lakra has been a big player in the Indian men’s hockey team.
It also has a great achievement in the field of politics. Many alumni of the college have registered a good presence in the field of politics. Presently two alumni of the college Rajesh Kachhap from Khijri and Naman Vixal from Kolebira are MLAs.
