New Delhi, April 6: Anil Antony, the son of Congress leader and former Defence Minister AK Antony, joined the BJP on Thursday.
After his tweet opposing the contentious BBC documentary on Prime Minister Narendra Modi caused a stir in the party, he had resigned from all positions in the Congress in January.
The former Congressman was formally welcomed to the BJP by Union ministers Piyush Goyal, V Muraleedharan, and BJP’s Kerala unit chief K Surendran.

Before leaving the party in the wake of the controversy over the BBC documentary, Anil Antony oversaw the Congress’ social media presence in Kerala. Anil Antony, who opposed the documentary and claimed that doing so would “undermine” India’s sovereignty by giving the British broadcaster’s opinions precedence over those of Indian institutions.
