New Delhi, Aug 26: Senior politician Ghulam Nabi Azad resigned from all party positions, including the party’s primary membership, giving the Congress a major shock.
This came after Azad left his position as the Jammu and Kashmir Congress’s chief campaign officer on August 16.
“It is therefore with great regret and an extremely leaden heart that I have decided to sever my half a century old assocation with Indian National Congress,” read Ghulam Nabi Azad’s resignation letter to Congress interim president Sonia Gandhi.

Notably, he was also one of the 23 leaders who, two years ago, demanded organisational changes in an explosive letter to Sonia Gandhi, the party’s head.
“Unfortunately after entry of Shri Rahul Gandhi into politics & particularly after January 2013 when he was appointed as VP by you, the entire consultative mechanism which existed earlier was demolished by him,” says GN Azad in his resignation letter to Sonia Gandhi.
“Worse still the ‘remote control model’ that demolished institutional integrity of UPA govt now got applied to INC. While, you’re just a nominal figure heard all the important decisions were being taken by Shri Rahul Gandhi or rather worse his security guards & PAs,” he added.
