New Delhi: The Congress leadership on Tuesday held a high-level meeting at the party headquarters, Indira Bhawan, to review the Election Commission’s Special Intensive Revision (SIR) process underway in 12 states. The party alleged that the SIR exercise is directly connected to “vote theft”, citing the recent Bihar election results.
Top Leadership Reviews SIR Amid Internal Turmoil
Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge and senior leader Rahul Gandhi chaired the meeting, attended by KC Venugopal, AICC in-charges of concerned states, Congress Legislature Party leaders, PCC chiefs, and CWC members. The meeting was called in the backdrop of the party’s poor performance in Bihar and rising dissatisfaction within the organisation.
Leaders reviewed the SIR process across 12 states, expressing serious concerns over transparency. Congress alleged that the Election Commission’s functioning lacked accountability and that the SIR process threatens the democratic framework.
Congress Accuses EC Of Predetermined Bihar Outcome
The party claimed that the NDA did not come to power through a genuine public mandate. Congress leaders alleged that Chief Election Commissioner Rajiv Kumar (referred to as “Gyanesh Gupta” in political sarcasm) had already “decided” the outcome. They argued that if Bihar had a truly democratic mandate, the NDA would have been “wiped out”.
The party insisted that the SIR exercise played a crucial role in what it calls mass voter fraud. Meanwhile, the EC has distributed over 49.7 crore enumeration forms in the second phase of the SIR process, which runs from November 4 to December 4 across 12 states and Union Territories.
