New Delhi, Jan 14: Congress MP Chaudhary Santokh Singh from Jalandhar passed away while participating in the Bharat Jodo Yatra on Saturday morning in Punjab’s Phillaur. He was travelling in the yatra with Rahul Gandhi when his heartbeat became erratic and he became ill.

The Congressman was transferred to Phagwara’s Virk hospital, where doctors pronounced him dead. After learning the news, Rahul Gandhi left the Bharat Jodo Yatra and went to the hospital. For the day, the yatra has been put on hold.

The Bharat Jodo Yatra, meanwhile, started on September 7 of last year from Kanyakumari and will end on January 30 in Srinagar, Jammu & Kashmir.

On Twitter, Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann expressed his sympathies for the passing of the Congress MP in Punjabi.

He wrote, “I am deeply saddened by the untimely death of Congress Member of Parliament from Jalandhar, Santokh Singh Chowdhury.. May God rest his soul in peace.”

The former Punjab Chief Minister Captain Amarinder Singh also expressed his condolences.

My heartfelt condolences are with his entire family in their time of grief. May Waheguru Ji grant eternal peace to the departed soul. pic.twitter.com/LJqQA8avAo
