Patna: Tensions flared in Patna on Tuesday as Congress workers staged an aggressive protest outside the Enforcement Directorate (ED) office. The outrage comes in the wake of a charge sheet filed by the ED in the National Herald case, which names senior Congress leaders Rahul Gandhi and Sonia Gandhi.
ED Office Signboard Blackened, Slippers Hurled
The protest took a dramatic turn when enraged Congress workers began hurling slippers and shoes at the ED signboard. They also smeared it with black paint to register their anger. The scene turned chaotic as slogans echoed through the area, criticizing the central government and alleging political vendetta.
March Began From State Congress Office
The protestors had first gathered near the Bihar Congress headquarters, from where they marched through Income Tax roundabout and JP Golambar, eventually converging at the ED office. The rally was led by senior Congress leaders and saw a massive turnout of party workers.
Top Bihar Congress Leaders Led the Demonstration
The march was spearheaded by Bihar Congress in-charge Avinash Pande, state president Dr. Akhilesh Singh, and legislative party leader Shakeel Ahmad Khan. The leaders accused the Modi government of using central agencies as political weapons to target the opposition.
Congress Alleges Misuse of ED, Vows Resistance
Addressing the protestors, Congress leaders alleged that the ED was being misused to settle political scores. “This is a direct attack on democracy. The government wants to suppress opposition voices and is resorting to undemocratic means,” one leader said. They vowed that Congress would not bow down to pressure and would face every challenge head-on.
National Protest by Congress Across India
Similar demonstrations were held across India on Tuesday, with Congress’s official handle on X (formerly Twitter) sharing visuals from multiple states. The party claimed that the ED’s move was part of a broader strategy to derail the opposition ahead of upcoming elections.
