Dumka, Jan 25: Over four decades long Jharkhand Diwas function of the JMM will continue to be a low-key affair for the second consecutive year on February 2.

It has been resolved in the divisional level meeting of the JMM held today at Khajuriya based party office here that like the previous year, the event would be organised at district level by the respective district committees of Santhal Pargana.

Earlier, the annual Jharkhand Diwas function throughout remained a gala event when the party supremo Shibu Soren used to address thousands of his supporters, mostly being tribals including women and children from across the Santhal Pargana, in the midnight rally at the historical Gandhi Maidan here.

The event remained equally significant for the JMM during the period of undivided Bihar in terms of mobilising the local masses to support the cause of the separate statehood movement led by Shibu Soren when tribals armed with traditional weapons and amidst the beats of traditional drums used to throng to the divisional headquarter here to mark the occasion.

As of now, when not only the Jharkhand state has come into being for the last two decades but the JMM itself has been in the helm of affairs of the governance, the prevailing pandemic of Covid-19 has also casted its shadow on the Jharkhand Diwas celebration for the last one year.

“For the pandemic is still prevalent with restrictions also being in force it has been decided to decentralise the Jharkhand Diwas function which otherwise is like a festival for the party cadres,” Chief Minister Hemant Soren said who also attended the divisional meet of the party conventionally been organised to chalk out strategy for the Jharkhand Diwas function.

Senior party leaders including state minister Hafizul Ansari, Rajmahal MP Vijay Hasda, Shikaripara MLA Nalin Soren, former speaker of state assembly Shashank Shekhar Bhokta, Littipara MLA Dinesh Marandi and party presidents of all the six district units attended the meeting and unequivocally advocated for organising the Jharkhand Diwas function in strict adherence to the Covid preventive guidelines.

Chief minister Hemant Soren will hoist the national flag at the police line ground here on the republic day and launch the petrol subsidy scheme.
