Covid cases continue to witness surge in Jamshedpur, 44 fresh cases reported in 24 hours

Jamshedpur, July 21: The Covid-19 cases continued to witness a surge in steel city with 44 fresh cases detected during the past 24 hours. The situation seems to be alarming as Jamshedpur reported 37 fresh cases on Thursday. So, the count of Covid-19 cases rose to 81 in the last two days.

A bulletin issued by East Singhbhum health department stated that of 881 tests including men and women, who underwent the Covid-19 test on Wednesday, 44 were found positive. Around 279 people underwent the RT-PCR test, while four people faced the Truenet test. The rest 598 underwent the Rapid Antigen Test ( RAT ). 

Telco and Mango locality reported eight cases each, six cases were reported from Bistupur, five each from Kadma and Sonari, two from Baridih and one each from Sakchi and Parsudih. The rest of the cases were reported from peripheral areas of the city.

According to health department sources, all 14 Covid patients recovered and were released from various hospitals on Thursday. With this, the total count of active cases in Jamshedpur rose to 222. The positivity rate of Covid-19 touched 4.99 per cent while the recovery rate stood at 98.13 per cent.

The district health department has again issued an advisory asking people to make use of masks and frequent use of hand sanitisers while they are away from home. Health department officials said that such a large number of positive cases were found after a long time.

“Today’s report suggests that the virus is spreading in steel city for which people need to take utmost care. They need to follow the necessary Covid protocols in order to check the spread of the virus, ” explained a health department official.

The official appealed to people to take the booster dose which is now available free in various centres. About 16,000 people have been inoculated with the booster dose in the district so far.
