Jiribam, Manipur – A gunfight in Manipur’s Jiribam district resulted in the death of a Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) jawan and injuries to three others on Sunday. The incident occurred around 9:30 am in the villages of Mongbung and Seijang, where armed miscreants engaged in a firefight with combined state and central security forces.

Ajay Kumar Jha, 43, a CRPF driver from Bihar, was fatally shot in the forehead. He was promptly evacuated to Jiribam district hospital but was declared brought dead upon arrival. Additionally, another CRPF jawan suffered a leg injury, and two Manipur state police commandos sustained bullet wounds. All injured personnel are receiving treatment at Jiribam district hospital. The gunfight ceased at approximately 11:30 am.

Chief Minister N Biren Singh condemned the attack, expressing his condolences and support for the injured. In a statement on X (formerly Twitter), he said, “I strongly condemn the killing of a CRPF personnel in an attack carried out by an armed group, suspected to be Kuki militants, in Jiribam district today. His supreme sacrifice in the line of duty shall not go in vain. I further extend my sincere condolences to the bereaved family of the deceased soldier, while praying for the speedy recovery of the ones injured during the attack.”

The incident has raised concerns about security and stability in the region, highlighting the ongoing challenges faced by security forces in maintaining peace and order in Manipur.
