New Delhi: In response to the delayed announcement of the CUET-UG results, Jamia Millia Islamia is considering an alternative strategy for its undergraduate admissions this year, according to an official statement on Tuesday. The university plans to hold a meeting with the deans of all schools on Thursday to discuss the issue and devise a solution to commence the admission process as soon as possible.

Jamia Millia Islamia remains the only central university in the national capital that has not fully adopted the Common University Entrance Examination (CUET) system for admissions into its undergraduate and postgraduate courses. Currently, it accepts CUET scores for 15 out of the 50 undergraduate courses and five out of the 86 master’s programs offered.

In contrast, other central universities in Delhi, including Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) and Delhi University (DU), have fully implemented CUET for their admission processes.

“The officiating Vice-Chancellor Mohammad Shakeel will hold a meeting of deans of all schools of Jamia on July 18. They will discuss how to navigate the situation and start the admission process,” the official told PTI.

The National Testing Agency (NTA) announced a re-test for over 1,000 CUET-UG candidates on July 19, following complaints about issues such as time loss due to the distribution of incorrect question papers. Despite this, the NTA has not provided a clear timeline for the declaration of results, which were originally scheduled for release on June 30 and have now been delayed by over two weeks.

This delay has left undergraduate admissions in many universities in Delhi, which rely on CUET for their admissions, in a state of uncertainty. The academic sessions in these universities were supposed to begin on August 1.

To address the delay, several universities in Delhi, including JNU and Ambedkar University, plan to hold extra classes in the evening after regular hours and on weekends. Additionally, they may shorten their winter break to cover the syllabus.

The NTA is currently under scrutiny for alleged irregularities in the competitive exams it conducts, including NEET-UG and UGC NET.

Jamia Millia Islamia’s prompt action to address the CUET-UG result delay reflects its commitment to ensuring a smooth and timely admission process for its students. The outcome of the upcoming meeting will determine the next steps for the university’s admissions this year.
