Jamshedpur, Nov 13: Jamshedpur’s Annual Flower Show will be back in January next year, after a hiatus of two years.
One of the most awaited events of the city, the flower show is organised by the Horticultural Society, Jamshedpur supported by Tata Steel Ltd and Tata Steel UISL. The flower show will be organised from Dec 30, 2022 to Jan 2, 2023 at the Gopal Maidan, Bistupur and nature lovers will be able to come across a variety of species of flowers and fruits.
The Horticultural Society, Jamshedpur organised a press meet at the Beldih Club to share the details of the event. An award show for the Seventh Garden of the Year contest held in Jan 2020 was also organised as the prize distribution ceremony could not take place in the past two years due to the pandemic.
Chairperson of Horticultural Society, Jamshedpur Ruchi Narendran, president Sumita Nupur and secretary Arvind Sinha also unveiled the mascot of the 2023 Annual Flower Show. The theme of this year’s 32nd Annual Flower Show is ‘Hariyali Se Khushali Hamari Zimmedari’ that will take visitors through aspects on conservation of greenery.
Going by the traditional method, the exhibition area would be divided into two parts — individual (or amateur) and institution. The competitive categories will include potted seasonal flowers, perennial flowers, potted fruits and vegetables, potted foliage plants, cacti succulents, bonsai, cut flowers, bouquets and medicinal plants. Technical sessions with horticulturalists will be an important part of the four day fiesta. The sessions shall cover new techniques of cultivation, soil less gardening culture and landscaping in urban spaces.
While most of the individual exhibitors would be local, there will be outstation corporate houses in the institutional category. Apart from the competitive exhibits, the show will also host a number of stalls showcasing gardening tools and nurseries for plant lovers to visit and shop from a wide range of show plants. Food stalls will also be a part of the four day show. Evenings shall be filled with cultural extravaganza for the entertainment purpose of the visitors.
“The past two years have been difficult but now we are here again to present the Annual Flower Show to the people of Jamshedpur. There will be a number of exhibits and stalls for people to come and enjoy the winter. Also we have ensured that the entire flower show zone is a ‘No Plastic’ zone,” said Narendran in her address to the media.
As far as Garden of the Year 2020 awards held at the same venue on Sunday, participating gardeners won prizes in various categories that include individual flat/terrace up to 100 sq ft and more than 101 sq ft; individual house up to 250 sq ft; individual house up to 500 sq ft; bungalows maintained by company; schools and colleges.
The winners received trophies and certificates. The Garden of the Year competition will again take place on Jan 21 and 22 also after a gap of two years.
