DDC oversees Covid-19 preparedness mock drill at SNMMCH Dhanbad

Dhanbad, April 10: Deputy development commissioner (DDC) Shashi Prakash Singh today assessed the Covid combating arrangement of Shahid Nirmal Mahto Medical College Hospital (SNMMCH) and said that the district is well prepared to face any challenges.

After inspection of the medical college Cath Lab meant for Covid patients, DDC said that 130 oxygen-supported beds, 50 ventilator-supported beds and  300 general beds are ready for the treatment of infectious patients.
Roaster of doctors and Para medical staff has been already been prepared for the care of the patients.

The DDC held a meeting with SNMMCH principal Dr  Jyotiranjan Prasad, superintendent Dr AK Barnbal, medicine department HoD Dr UK Ojha, civil surgeon Dr Alok Viswakarma and other senior faculty members of the medical college and said that preparation is satisfactory for the treatment of patients.

“Now the administration has decided to expand the area of Covid testing at the railway station and inter-state bus stand so that infected person does not infect other”, said Shashi Prakash Singh.

DDC during the inspection of the medical college hospital assessed ICU, PCA oxygen plant and store room and conducted a mock drill to ensure that the available infrastructure functioned properly. He on the occasion directed medical college authorities to get empty oxygen cylinders filled up, keeping oxygen plants in action and connecting oxygen pipes with the beds where it’s not attached so far in the hospital.

SNMMCH principal Dr Jyotiranjan Prasad said that the college hospital is geared up for the treatment of  Covid patients. “Though there is a shortage of staff available but the infrastructure is enough to face the situation with minimum workforce”, he said.

Medicine HoD Dr UK Ojha, who successfully discharged responsibility as the head of the Covid ward in the 2020-21 wave, said that he assured the DDC that the medical college hospital is well prepared for facing any challenge.

Civil surgeon Dr Alok Viswakarma said district health department will work in coordination with the medical college hospital.
