New Delhi, Jan 21:Lieutenant Governor Anil Baijal on Friday rejected the Delhi government’s plan to scrap the odd-even system for operating stores and ease the weekend curfew.

The LG House agreed to a 50% attendance requirement in private offices, but advised that the weekend curfew and market hours remain unchanged. According to news agency ANI, a decision would be made on the matter if the COVID situation improves further.

Earlier in the day, Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia gave a news conference to announce that the Delhi government is considering easing the weekend curfew, ending the odd-even system for shop openings, and enabling private workplaces in the city to operate with half-staff.

According to him, Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal’s proposal was given to Lt Governor Anil Baijal for his approval. The Deputy Chief Minister added that the decision to loosen the limitations was made in light of the lowering number of COVID cases in the city and their impact on livelihood and commercial activities.

Traders in various districts of the national capital have demanded that the restrictions, which include the operating of non-essential goods shops on odd-even days, be lifted. The weekend curfew, established in response to an increase in COVID cases, will begin at 10 p.m. on Friday and last until 5 a.m. on Monday.
