New Delhi, Feb 8: The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) on Wednesday arrested Hyderabad-based chartered accountant Butchi Babu Gorantla in connection with the Delhi excise policy case. The accused is believed to be a former aide of Telangana Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao’s daughter MLC Kavitha, whose name had already featured in the case.
He will be produced in court today.
Gorantla is said to have contributed to the creation and execution of the Delhi excise policy, according to reports.
The CBI said that his involvement with the now-cancelled Delhi Excise Policy resulted in ‘wrongful benefit’ for Hyderabad-based wholesale and retail licensees and their beneficial owners. The CBI had previously questioned Kavitha, KCR’s daughter, in Hyderabad on December 12 on the case.
The Enforcement Department had claimed that she was a member of the ‘South Cartel,’ which benefited from kickbacks in the liquor policy case.
