New Delhi, Jan 6: Amid chaos and clash between AAP and BJP councillors, the MCD house adjourned before the commencement of voting for mayor elections on Friday.
The Aam Aadmi Party and Bharatiya Janata Party members shoved, jostled, and fought with one another as the Delhi mayoral elections got underway on Friday morning. Videos from the meeting showed shocking scenes, with council members scrambling over one another to climb on top of desks and dais.
Before the vote could be cast, the meeting was called to order due to the conflicts, which swiftly descended into violence with punches and chairs being hurled being traded.
The AAP, which defeated the BJP by a landslide in last month’s civic body elections, has accused its foes of ‘hooliganism.’ Not to be outdone, the BJP asserted that AAP leaders initiated the ruckus. In either case, turmoil quickly erupted, and marshals were required to maintain order.

The altercation started when presiding officer Satya Sharma, who was chosen by Lieutenant Governor VK Saxena over the AAP’s Mukesh Goyal recommendation invited nominated councillors or aldermen (those who traditionally cannot vote) to take oath ahead of elected members (those who can vote).
