New Delhi, Dec 3: The Supreme Court on Friday allowed Delhi government to go ahead with the construction activities of hospitals in the city.

A Bench of Chief Justice NV Ramana, Justice DY Chandrachud and Surya Kant  set the next date of hearing on December 10.

Earlier, the Delhi government had requested the top court to allow construction work of the hospitals in the city, adding that work is being carried out in 19 government hospitals to provide better health infrastructure in the national capital for the benefit of patients.

The bench approved the measures proposed by the commission directed the Centre and Delhi government to comply with Commission’s December 2 orders.

“We have taken into consideration the directions proposed. We direct Centre and NCT of Delhi to implement the orders of December  2 and we keep the matter pending and will hear it on next Friday,” the Bench stated in its order.

Meanwhile, UP govt tells Supreme Court that the closure of industries may affect sugarcane and milk industries in the State and UP is in the downward wind, the air is mostly coming from Pakistan. To this, Chief Justice NV Ramana quipped, ‘so you want to ban industries in Pakistan!’

Notably, Delhi Environment Minister Gopal Rai on Monday held a review meeting with concerned departments regarding air pollution and said that all construction activities would remain suspended in the nation Capital till further orders.

The commission for Air Quality Management in Delhi-NCR also informed the apex court that the industrial operations in NCR not running on CNG/cleaner fuels allowed to operate only up to 8 hrs from Monday to Friday only. Additionally, entry of trucks in Delhi except CNG/electric trucks and trucks carrying essential commodities has been stopped.
