Aaftab also abandoned Shraddha’s phone, which the Delhi Police claim can be recovered by tracing her last known whereabouts.
Aaftab and Shraddha Walkar met each other on an online dating app. Later, they started working for the same call centre in Mumbai and fell in love. But their families objected to the relationship as they belonged to different faiths, prompting the couple to move out of the financial capital and come to Delhi.
On May 18, the two had a heated argument on the matter of marriage. Aftab strangled Shraddha in the heat of the moment. To evade arrest, he chopped her body into multiple pieces. He concealed the murder by staying active on the victim’s social media account. He also googles methods of blood cleaning and how to dispose of the evidences.
For the following 16 days, he would dispose of certain body pieces each night. In order to prevent the scent of decay from permeating the home, he burned agarbatti. When he was held for questioning, he admitted the crime.
