New Delhi, Dec 16: Delhi has reported 4 new cases of the Omicron variant of the coronavirus on Thursday, taking the total number of omicron infections to 10 in the national capital, informed health minister Satyendar Jain. With this, the total number of Omicron cases in India reaches to 77.
“Of the 10 cases, 1 patient has been discharged from the hospital. Currently, 9 patients are admitted to LNJP hospital,” said Satyendar Jain adding that all the patients are stable.
The Delhi health minister said as many as 40 patients, who have COVID related symptoms have been admitted. Of the 40, 38 are positive while two are suspect.
Earlier on Wednesday, West Bengal and Tamil Nadu also reported their first Omicron cases. In Bengal, a seven-year-old boy tested positive for the new coronavirus variant, after returning from Abu Dhabi and in Tamil Nadu, a 47-year-old who had arrived from Nigeria was found to be infected with Omicron.
Samples of his family members who had also tested positive for Covid-19 have been sent for genome sequencing.
